For a New Globalization is on of three European FeltrinelliCamp organised by Fondazione Feltrinelli in 2021, in collaboration with national and international universities, research centres and institutional stakeholders. For a New Globalization intends to focus on innovative actors, policies and economies to change globalization and moving towards a fairer international system. The overall objective of the workshop is to promote high quality scientific exchanges among junior researchers and practitioners with different scientific/disciplinary backgrounds and from diverse geographical contexts, working on issues and projects relating to economic and social innovation, theory and practice of international organizations, sharing economies, macroeconomic policy-making.

Feltrinelli Camp. For a new globalization
Guiding questions
With the pandemic and the climate crisis, the role of the State has come back to the centre of economic, social and political life. In order to counter the virus, huge economic plans have been approved and public debt has surged as a consequence. Communities’ need for support from public authorities has started to change people’s attitude towards government’s intervention.
Is this a transitory phase or are we witnessing a stable return of the State into the economic scene? If the latter is true, can public actors once again become the engine of equitable development and widespread prosperity? What can be the role of States in shaping a more humane globalization?
The European Feltrinelli Camp “For a New Globalization” aims to foster the rethinking of models and practices for the transformation of social actors toward a more fairer and sustainable economy, starting from the State and involving the private sector and civil society.
The Camp is inspired by the awareness that our economies are facing historical challenges. A transformational approach needs to take into account political, financial and resource constraints. At the same time it needs to be conscious that the limit of what we can do is given just by the possible strategies that we are able to imagine.
A new economy, more equal, green and prosperous, is possible. But we need to ask ourselves which form our new society should take and how we can get there. Therefore, it is necessary to devise new forms of organisation for the State, the market and local communities.
At the Feltrinelli Camp, researchers, activists and practitioners in the relevant sectors will discuss a set of practical actions that can make it possible to develop a just society and a sustainable economy. The Feltrinelli Camp will explore challenges and priorities for a new path of shared development, outlining new models for our economies, to address the most urgent problems of today.
Speakers’ Bio
Enrica Chiappero-Martinetti is Professor of Economic Politics and Head of the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the University of Pavia. She got a PhD in Public Economics at University of Pavia and she has been visiting fellow and visiting professor at the universities of Cambridge (UK), Harvard (USA), Hitotsubashi (Japan) and Nairobi (Kenya). She has been appointed as Honorary Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences at the University of Free State, South Africa.
Paolo Graziano is Professor of Political Science at the University of Padua, Research Associate at the European Social Observatory, Brussels, Chercheur associé at Sciences Po, Paris and Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Surrey. He has held visiting positions at a number of universities, including Cornell University, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Sciences Po Paris and others.
Camillo De Bernardis is the CEO of Cooperazione Finanza Impresa (CFI) and has been for twenty years CEO of Conad and also member of the board of directors for various enterprises and international associations in the field of large-scale distribution. He also has been a member of the presidency at Legacoop.
Nadia Garbellini is Professor at Università degli Studi di Milano and Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca where she holds classes in Economics. She got a PhD in Economics at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. She has been visiting professor at the University of Bogotà and she has been teaching assitant at the catholic University of Milan.
Massimo Amato is Professor at Bocconi University. His work focuses on the interpretation of money as an institution and on highlighting the conditions for its increasingly urgent reform. In addition to various articles published in international journals, he has written several books, many of which have been translated into English and French. The latest two published books, dedicated to the crisis and to the reform of the financial system, have been very popular with a lay audience.
Sara Lovisolo is Group Sustainability Manager for the London Stock Exchange Group of which Borsa Italiana is a member. On behalf of Borsa Italiana, she co-chairs the working group dedicated to the creation of the Italian Financial Centre for Sustainability (CFIS), part of the Italian Observatory for Sustainable Finance (OIFS) set up by the Italian Ministry for the Environment.
She is a member of the advisory boards of the UN Sustainable Stock Exchange Initiative and of the FC4S network of financial centres for sustainability, part of the UN Environmental Program (UNEP).
Magda Bianco is the Managing Director for Consumer Protection and Financial Education of Banca d’Italia. She already has been head of the Consumer Protection and Anti-Money Laundering Directorate. She is a Research Associate of the European Corporate Governance Institute and a member of the Executive Board of the Italian Society of Law and Economics and of the OECD Committee on Corporate Governance.
Vitor Constâncio served as vice-President of the European Central Bank from 2010 to 2018. He also has been Portuguese Minister of Finance and Planning and Governor of the Bank of Portugal. Currently, he is professor at the School of Economics and Business Administration at the University of Navarra. He is also distinguished fellow at the Center of Economic and Policy Research.
Jeffrey Sachs is Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University and President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network. He is known as one of the world’s leading experts on sustainable development, economic development, and the fight against poverty.
Isabella M. Weber is the Research Leader for China of the Asian Political Economy Program at PERI and an Assistant Professor of Economics at University of Massachusetts Amherst. She was previously a Lecturer at Goldsmiths, University of London. She is the principal investigator of the Economic and Social Research Council.
Orsola Costantini is currently an Economic Affairs Officer at UNCTAD was previously Senior Economist at the Institute for New Economic Thinking. She graduated from the University of Pavia in Italy and in 2013 received her Ph.D. in Economics from the same institution. She is associate editor of the International Journal of Political Economy.
Andrea Capussela led the International Civilian Office’s in Kosovo, was an advisor to Moldova’s Minister of Economy on behalf of the European Union, worked on the development of Calabria, and holds meetings in schools on the ethics of rules.
Rowan Conway is Policy Fellow and Head of UCL’s Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose’s Mission Oriented Innovation Network. Formerly the Director of Innovation and Development at the RSA, she led the RSA’s development of new strategies, partnerships and innovation programmes.
Edoardo Zanchini is vice-President of Legambiente and responsible for climate, international and urban policies. He graduated and obtained a PhD from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in Architecture. He has taught at the Universities of Rome, Ferrara and Pescara and became Associate Professor in Urban Planning and Design.
Silvia Sacchetti is Professor at the University of Trento, she has carried out her academic activity at the University of Birmingham, the Stirling Univeristiy (Scotland), as well as at the University of Ferrara and Trento in Italy. She has conducted research activities for Antares (Univeristy of Bologna- Forlì) and for the General Direction of Commerce for the Emilia-Romagna Region.
Nicolò Giangrande, is a PhD student in “Human and Social Sciences” at the University of Salento with research on the Italian economic decline. Among others, he has carried out research activities at the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung in São Paulo and the Centro Argentino de Estudios Internacionales in Buenos Aires .
Andrea Roventini is Professor at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna di Pisa. He is currently the principal investigator of the European Commission H2020 project “Growth Welfare Innovation Productivity”. He is also the coordinator and leader of the Sant’Anna unit in the project “Economics of Energy Innovation and System Transition” (EEIST) funded by the UK’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation.
Giovanni Dosi is Professor at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna di Pisa. He also serves as co-director of the ‘Industrial Policy’ and ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ task forces at the Initiative for Policy Dialogue at Columbia University. He is included in the ISI Highly Cited Research list, denoting those who made fundamental contributions to the advancement of science and technology, and is a corresponding member of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, the first academy of sciences in Italy.
Simone Gasperin is a PhD candidate at the UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose. He holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Pisa/Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna. In the past, he worked for a Brussels-based consultancy firm (EuroPartners & Associés), focusing on EU industrial and energy policy.
Luca Fantacci, co-director of the MINTS (Monetary Innovation, New Technologies and Society) research unit at the Baffi Carefin Centre of Bocconi University. He is Professor of economic history, history of economic thought, international economics and history of financial crises at Bocconi University.
